Parcelforce Worldwide: Governance and Assurance

Background

Parcelforce Worldwide was going through a period of change and investing in making the business an industry leader.  Following a major business restructure Pelicam was asked to help ensure the rationalisation programme was a success.

How We Helped

  • Support - Pelicam was initially brought in to help conclude a strategic technology project. Pelicam worked with the Senior Management team and advised on short and long term strategies.
  • Training – One of the experienced project managers attended one of Pelicam’s advanced project manager “Realising Project Intelligence” workshops to help refine his project manager skills. He has since created and instilled a thorough portfolio and change management process throughout the company.
  • Assurance and guidance - A senior Managing Practitioner was asked to provide ongoing project assurance on all the strategic business programmes. He met with the programme boards and worked with the Parcelforce Worldwide teams to ensure programmes were “set for success”:
    • Frameworks - Pelicam defined a standard project framework and templates for the management of all product development programmes.
    • Planning – The concept of “chunking-up projects” was introduced - looking at activities and describing how they sat together naturally with responsibility and accountability.
    • “Islands of Stability” – Pelicam defined key stages and decision/check points where the team were able to make safe decisions about spend, resources, suppliers and benefits.
    • Objectivity – Pelicam consistently challenged the project teams to ensure validation, honest appraisal and focus.
    • People – The right people from across the organisation were involved, trained, and supported.

  • As a consequence, in the last year Parcelforce Worldwide has delivered three very successful strategic projects and one major international programme.
  • Parcelforce Worldwide has incorporated a portfolio and change management approach and developed over 100 important changes without disrupting the business.
