Nationwide Case Study: Realising Project Intelligence workshops

“We worked with Pelicam because they are not a ‘run of the mill’ project management consultancy. They employ more experienced and well-respected Practitioners who are able to see the danger signs with projects well in advance.”
Arthur Amos, Nationwide

Our Client

Nationwide is the largest building society in the UK and the UK's second largest mortgage lender and savings provider. Nationwide was bringing together disparate IT departments from different functions of the organisation. The projects teams had varying levels of experience and training. The Head of IT had a significant number of business critical projects ahead and wanted the teams to understand and practise the kind of competences required to deliver the projects successfully.

How we helped

Pelicam organised a series of Realising Project Intelligence (RPI) workshops for the projects community, followed by one to one coaching with each individual three months after the course. The course was delivered by an experienced Managing Practitioner.

Benefits delivered

  1. On-time, on budget project delivery:
Following the course, a business critical Savings Migration project has been delivered on time and realised all the anticipated benefits.
  2. Change in project managers’ behaviours:
Project managers’ action plans focused on project areas that needed most improvement. The follow-up coaching assured, motivated and further challenged the team to sustain their performance improvement.
  3. Improved project manager capability:
New learning enabled project managers to understand project complexity and how to deal with that by design not chance.
  4. High performing teams:
People deliver projects. A greater focus on balancing management and leadership styles whilst retaining consensus, and that behind a single clear and agreed vision, transformed the project teams.

“You can not underestimate the value of having an experienced Practitioner carry out the training. He was able to relate to the issues facing project managers and really help them to find ways of improving their performance in challenging situations.”
Martyn Dudley, Nationwide
