Centrica: Realising Project Intelligence
“The facilitator inspired us to go back and redefine our projects; he acted as the voice of reason. He invigorated the delegates and motivated us to think long and hard about how to run a project well.”
John Walsh – Project Manager
“The RPI course was excellent and I really learnt from the experience of Pelicam. I came away from the workshop with some new ideas and a new perspective on the way to approach certain areas of project management.”
Manus Walsh – Project Manager
Our Client
- Centrica, the largest energy company in the UK, was about to embark on a huge portfolio of projects. Included in this was one of the biggest SAP upgrades carried out by any of the energy businesses. It was therefore imperative that the project management community were in a position to deliver the projects, on time, to budget and delivering the benefits required. The RPI workshops and follow up was the first step as a way of maximising their chance of success.
How we helped
- Pelicam showed the senior management how the RPI workshops would be able to further develop their project management team. Many have had PRINCE 2 training already: but that alone is not enough to show the how, why and when particular methods are put into practice.
- Pelicam trained the project management community of 50 professionals.
- They also carried out one to one follow up sessions with all attendees to discuss commitment, personal improvements, progress and remedial measures where appropriate.
Benefits Achieved
- Re-energised the team of project managers by showing them practical ways forward that enable successful project delivery.
- The business critical Customer Billing and SAP Upgrade project is on-track and staying there for the first time; as confirmed by a recent independent technical audit by a top-tier firm.
- The area of sponsor engagement was highlighted for improvement and this has been addressed supporting the delivery of the projects.
- Following the workshop there has been more focus on the area of business engagement - more consultation with end users and a clear understanding of how the new technology will support their business objectives has made the hand over of projects seamless. The smooth implementation of the new technology has helped the department to achieve their reduction in bad debt target.
- The facilitator’s experience has proved invaluable resource in steering the team and offering advice and acting as a sounding board.
